An Interim Pastor Nominating Committee (IPNC) was created upon Pastor Jeff’s retirement announcement. Under the authority of the Board of Elders, the IPNC considered eight candidates. On Tuesday evening, December 18th, upon the recommendation of the IPNC, the Board of Elders voted unanimously to welcome the Rev. Dr. Neal Nybo as StoneBridge’s interim pastor who will start serving on January 15th, 2019.
Rev. Dr. Neal Nybo is a full-time interim pastor. Prior to interim pastoring, he served as executive pastor at the largest Presbyterian Church in San Diego and oversaw a staff of 120, managed the daily activities of that thriving church's 1600 members, and lead worship for five weekend services.
Kindness and clarity are two topics Pastor Neal never tires of. He considers both vital aspects of the good news Jesus calls Christians to proclaim. Pastor Neal has written and spoken about both topics. His most recent book, Servant Leadership in Action, is a collaboration with Ken Blanchard and an amazing list of significant leaders.
As head of staff, Neal has preached and taught regularly in a variety of settings. He loves working and living alongside people, helping them discover God’s heart and purpose for their lives and for their community. Working with a church’s staff and elders is an integral part of his interim ministry. His collaborative approach invites participation at all levels. Denominationally, Pastor Neal has been active in his respective presbyteries and has served as moderator as well as a member of multiple committees.
Pastoral ministry is a second career for Neal. He brings to the pastorate, fifteen years’ experience in sales, marketing and fundraising. His journey from business to pastor included being an elder at Hollywood Presbyterian Church. He and his wife, Carolyn, began raising their two daughters, Annie and Emily in Simi Valley where he did a pastoral internship at StoneBridge with Pastor Jeff! They moved to San Diego, where they have lived for the last twenty years. Pastor Neal earned both his Master’s of Theology and Doctorate of Ministry degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA. Through it all, Christ has led him to deeper levels of trust in him.
